united nations | designer clothing charity event

“Style It Forward” is a collection drive that is run twice a year (May and October 2013) by luxury clothing retail company, Club 21 to collect gently worn pre-loved designer clothing, shoes, bags and accessories from their customers. Customers donate their designer items at designated Club 21 collection points and volunteers from United Nations Singapore sort through the clothing to ensure that the donated designer pieces are in good condition and can be sold to the public.

I participated with the sorting of the designer clothing and it affirmed my opinion that Singapore is a land rich in high end designer fashion with the vast majority of pieces donated of high quality and very gently worn. There were also amazing designer items that I picked out which were used for editorial purposes by the UN. Many of the donated designer pieces were from designers such as Chanel, Prada, Diane Von Furstenburg, Salvatore Ferragamo, Alexander McQueen, Marni, Yves Saint Laurent, Balanciaga, Kate Spade and Lanvin just to name a few.

A 2 day charity sale was then held on 2-3 November 2013 where the pre-loved designer clothing that was collected from the two collection drives during the year went on sale to the public. This year, the sale was held at the basement of the Forum Shopping Mall, Singapore. I participated as a merchandiser for the event and also assisted customers with queries. To give you an idea of the quality of designer pieces that were up for sale at this charity event, here are some pictures that I took during the day:

The funds raised from the “Buy to Save” event is used to support the projects that are are carried out by the United Nations Women Singapore Committee. These projects are aimed towards women empowerment and support programs that provide women and children with education, healthcare, economic independence and a life free from violence and abuse. This year, the UN Women Singapore Committee raised in excess of $85,000 from the ‘Buy to Save’ charity event. That’s a huge success!

It was a very memorable experience and it felt good to give something back to the community. Thank you to all the lovely people that I met at the UN and the volunteers who were all so friendly that made this experience so enjoyable. See you all again soon… x
